Need advice from people who have experienced intrusive urges/thoughts (OCD)?

Due to some unfortunate circumstances I've developed the lovely condition of OCD. My therapist suggests that my UNWANTED violent intrusive thoughts and urges are the result of violence throughout my child and early adult years. I would never want to hurt anybody, especially when I know first-hand how it can negatively impact a persons life...

But I cant shake these thoughts of hurting completely innocent people. The thoughts I could manage... it's the urges that scare me. I love people, why would I have an urge to do something that I dont want to do? Im not a sick person and I dont want to be misinterpreted which is easy to do unless you've experienced this disorder for yourself.

Please tell me how you managed or alleviated your intrusive thoughts and urges. I've tried meds and therapy.Need advice from people who have experienced intrusive urges/thoughts (OCD)?
I think the first step is to realise that although you are having these intrusive thoughts, it doesn't necessarily mean that you would ever DO those things or that you actually want to.

Our minds can get stuck on unpleasant things. You hate violence because it occured while you were developing. That has a big impact on a person. Being prone to obsessive thoughts... it makes sense that this is what your mind would focus on, violence. It's the LAST thing that you would ever want in your life. It's what you're afraid of happening. Sometimes when we're so fearful or stressed of something happening, we almost want to just make it happen so it can be over with. This is how I view intrusive unwanted thoughts. I think this is why you experience these violent thoughts.

It's important to realise that you are only having these thoughts because you DON'T want violence in your life. Of course you need to keep an eye on it and be checked by a doctor, incase you ever were to do anything violent, but I think you are quite safe in that you wouldn't do anything like that.

As for trying to get rid of them... it's difficult. Lifestyle improvements are the best way to go, like a very nourishing diet, exercise and SLEEP! There are the things we need to refresh and heal our bodies and minds.

Hang in there and keep trying, all things do pass eventuallyNeed advice from people who have experienced intrusive urges/thoughts (OCD)?
First, know that you are not alone. That form of OCD is more common than many sufferers know! Secondly, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has proven to be very effective for OCD. Have you looked into CBT yet?
you know, the thing that worked the most for me was giving up on it.

i got so sick of thinking sick thoughts, and so sick of fighting them. so i got to the point where i stopped caring.

at first it was just giving up, you know, like ';what's the ******* point, i'm just ******* crazy.'; but as time went on and as i stopped regarding those thoughts at all they bothered me less.

like, this is confusing to explain. whenever an intrusive thought enters your mind, don't freak out or anything. just move on to the next thought. with time, i think you'll notice a change.

you take care.
