Questions about Scorpions. People who live in the desert I need advice.?

I recently moved to Nevada 2yrs ago, and I have killed numerous scorpions around my house. However, I need some advice for a city boy. I never faced this kind of problem.

1. How do I prevent scorpions from entering my house?

2. If I am stung by one, (god forbid) how do I treat it?

3. I own a cat, are they well affected by a scorpion sting?

I can use the advice, especially those who live out of a desert.

To give you a description. They are gold looking, somewhat transparent, but I don't know if they are dangerous or what.

Much appreciated for any advice.Questions about Scorpions. People who live in the desert I need advice.?
Although all scorpions have venom the only one that is considered a problem in Nevada is the bark scorpion, Centruroides exilicauda, which only occurs limitedly in Clark County.

Shake your shoes out before putting them on.

';Although most patients (92%) were treated at home with conservative therapy, 8% of patients either came to or were referred to a medical facility. Children younger than 5 years were frequently brought or were referred to either emergency care or inpatient hospital care. We conclude on the basis of this series that despite the historical reputation of lethality associated with envenomation by C exilicauda, most envenomations by this scorpion are relatively minor. The other important observation was that children younger than 5 years appear to be particularly prone to severe toxicity.';

';There is no home care for venomous scorpion bites. Prompt veterinary care is strongly recommended.

There are antidotes to scorpion venom but their use in animals is not recommended. Most animals respond well to supportive treatment, which is aimed at supporting the animal with intravenous fluids and pain relief. The stinger, if present, should be carefully removed.';
